Boosting Software Efficiency, Amplifying Results
At ODE we believe that the first step to improving software engineering is to benchmark current practices across a wide spectrum of assessments from Product Management and Architecture through Engineering to Service Management
Once you have the assessment result the second stage is drive the improvement. What are your weak areas? What are the bottle necks? How can they best be addressed to meet your needs?
The third and final step is to embed the improvements. A roadmap for re- assessment and road mapping is required. How do we embed a changed mindset, change behaviours and instil the discipline to make the change stick
The engineering excellence assessment dashboard below show an example of a client who has taken several assessments and drills through the results to determine one of the areas to improve.
The key benefit of ODE is to use a tried and trusted series of assessments, facilitated by a highly experienced independent consultant to determine your current maturity level across the product development cycle .
Engineering leaders wanting to improve, business owners wanting ROI, a CIO building a strategy or providing due diligence pre or post acquisition. There are many levels within an organisation where engineering excellence assessments can provide valuable impartial engineering insight.
There are currently 7 core assessments these are...
1) Software Engineering including agile processes. This is our longest running assessment first being run 20 years ago. It is also by far the most detailed. Hybrid, scrum, lean based processes can all be assessed
2) Continuous Delivery - think of this as a technical engagement survey
3) Architecture
4) Service Management
5) Product Ownership - how do your Product Owners\Managers feel about the outcomes from the team
6) Community of Practice - what is the maturity of CoPs within the assessed area
7) Portfolio Management
By using ODE you tap into the learnings from across a wide selection of companies build up over the past two decades. You are employing expertise in the field and ensuring the assessment is independent and unbiased. Leaving your team to concentrate on delivering outcomes.
The process and assessments have been refined over the last 20 years. All companies have seen improvements several have been transformational. ROI is very high with an in year pay back period.
This will depend upon which assessments that are run and the size of the team(s) to be assessed. For a single assessment for a squad this can be achieved in a day. For a wide series of assessment across a large department this will likely take a couple of weeks. Reassessments will be shorter.
Packages of work including assessment and transformation planning and execution will take months.
This will depend mostly on the number of assessments run and the size of the team(s) being assessed. What we do observe is very high ROI from the initiatives. An initial free consultation would sketch out a plan and indicative cost, get in touch to discuss.
The ODE assessments have worked well across multiple industries, company sizes from large PLCs to start-ups, using diverse technology stacks, hosted both in the cloud and on prem. It will work best where some agile techniques are being used or an agile adoption is planned.
No. The process can be completed without direct access to client systems most of the engagement can be completed remotely reducing the burden of onboarding a new third party.
